Our Philosophy on effective teams

  1. It does not matter whether you have great team work or not, unless you have a desired outcome or result in mind. Always have a compelling reason, such as hunger.  Effective team work is built on a compelling reason for people to work together. This is the vision or the what-can-be of team work.

  2. It does not matter whether you like or dislike each other. What matters is whether you are hungry enough to eat together. If not, you will poison each other.  Effectiveness comes from a shared understanding of the desired outcome or results.

  3. It does not matter what you say. What matters is what you do, for you cannot eat your words.  The way-we-do-things-here demonstrates your commitment to the desired outcome or results.

  4. It does not matter that there are too many chefs on your team. What matters is whether the chefs know how to combine their individual dishes into a sumptuous spread.  Effectiveness comes from focused and coordinated action by every team member.

  5. It does not matter whether you have the exact ingredients the recipe requires.  What matters is whether you know how to adapt what you do have to produce what you want. Effectiveness comes from learning to adapt, for when obstacles loom, a road map is less helpful than a compass bearing.

  6. And in the end, it does not matter whether we think your meal is good or not. What matters is whether you perceive it to be good or not. Effective leaders know that perceptions are reality: people do not behave according to instructions and strategies, but according to their perceptions of instructions and strategies.

This philosophy is imbedded in our proprietary services and products, such as the SHURE™ Success Cycle, the Strategy Validation DEWY Profile™ and the Strategy Execution DEWY Profile™.

These are both extracts from the article A New Key Competence:  Managing Perceptions for Effective Strategy Execution (pdf file size: 730kb).
